Dear patients and general public:
We are continuing to move forward in tackling the present challenges we are facing individually, in local communities, nationally, and throughout the world with the oncoming threat of the coronavirus. There are many questions and unknown outcomes that will only be answered in time. Our best advice to all people in times of uncertainty is to take a deep breath and seek to remain calm. It is also helpful to reflect on what we do know and what has been proven through experience.
Our practice is firmly rooted in a confidence and reliance upon the God-given power of each human body to heal and maintain normal function. The scientific efforts of mankind have continually validated that the body is a self-healing and self-regulating organism. We know that the nervous system controls and coordinates all functions of the body. Clinical evidence and modern research continue to show that spinal misalignment negatively affects the entire body by way of the nerves.
At this time, there are no cures, vaccines, medications, or treatments for coronavirus. The only defense we have to viral threat is our own individual immune system and the protective measures we may use to reduce exposure. Affirming that spinal health is fundamental to the health of the nervous system, immune system, and entire body; we are convicted that this is not a time to close our doors, cancel appointments, or suspend operations in any way. If the public health of this community is threatened in a way that is helped by our professional care, then we want to be in the trenches and on the front lines doing everything we can for the people who look to us for help.
Having said that, we re-affirm individual choice; everyone must do what makes them feel safe with notions of safety being informed by evidence. Please know that we do not want to add to the fear and panic that is already out there. Our intention is for you to understand our position on health in regards to coronavirus and how that impacts current and prospective patients.
We echo the position of our professional advisors; ChiroFutures Malpractice Insurance Program:
"Chiropractic is an essential health care service. Chiropractors are an essential and necessary part of the health care team for millions of patients of all ages around the world. As primary, portal of entry doctors, chiropractors are licensed and trained to provide all three levels of health promotion and health care prevention interventions including:
Primary prevention health care that prevents the onset of illness or injury before problems begin.
Secondary prevention health care that leads to early evaluation and prompt management of disease, illness or injury to prevent more severe problems developing.
Tertiary prevention health care aimed at recovery following illness."
"Chiropractors are trained and licensed in all 50 states to enforce and follow all public health regulations while acting in the best interests of the public and patients they serve."
"In addition to these essential aspects of health care, chiropractors are the only health care providers trained and licensed to provide care for the neuromusculoskeletal ramifications from structural spinal shifts that cause obstruction of the nervous system which impact the whole health and vitality of the individual. Chiropractors refer to these structural spinal shifts as vertebral subluxations."
"Chiropractors have provided these essential health services for over 100 years and have done so during pandemics, natural disasters and following terrorist attacks such as 911 at Ground Zero."
"Chiropractors may be part of the solution in this crisis because we can help the engines of commerce to continue to function and help triage people who do not belong in the ER. Then those who are not sick and not at higher risk can work, provide for their families and take care of those among them that cannot take care of themselves."
Current or prospective patients expressing symptoms related to COVID-19 including fever, runny nose, cough, or sore throat may still be seen in the office. Please contact us ahead of time to discuss your individual case and the possibility of a house call or scheduling during a non-busy office time. Also know that we continue to maintain a rigorous sanitation schedule before, after, and during office hours. If you test positive for COVID-19 and have been in the office at any point, please contact us immediately.
Please understand that we do not claim chiropractic to be a treatment for COVID-19. Chiropractic involves the relationship between the spine and nervous system and how that relationship relates to the restoration and maintenance of normal health and function. Chiropractic and upper cervical care are "salutogenic" or proactive things we can do to promote and support our best health and immune systems. Other salutogenic methods that we always recommend include remaining calm, lowering stress levels, getting plenty of sleep, mild sun exposure or supplementing with vitamin D, avoiding excess alcohol/caffeine/sugar, exercising, and eating healthy foods.
Please know that I am here to help and for any questions or concerns.
